Why Study Yoga Anatomy?
Studying anatomy through the lens of yoga gives you a deeper understanding of how your body truly works—not just in movement, but in stillness too. In asana (physical postures), we explore how joints, muscles, bones, and connective tissues function and adapt. But yoga is more than movement: it also includes pranayama (breathwork) and meditation, practices that influence our physiology—regulating the nervous system, improving circulation, supporting healing, and restoring balance. By learning how yoga affects the body as a whole, we can use it more intentionally to overcome injury and illness, build strength and resilience, and support long-term adaptability—physically, mentally, and spiritually.
FAQs about On-Demand Yoga Anatomy Courses
Who are these courses for?
These courses are for teachers and dedicated practitioners of yoga. Who want to truly deepen their knowledge of the human body, understand the effects of movement, and use this to improve health or help overcome injury.
Is it just anatomy?
No! That’s why we are called More Than Anatomy came! Dr. Robs’ experience of learning anatomy and his observations of how yoga anatomy is taught is that it does not focus on the most important thing. We practice yoga to feel better in our bodies and minds, and we teach to help other people feel that way too. These courses cover anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition. But we teach the elements of those disciplines that a yoga practitioner would find the most useful.
Whats different about these courses?
These courses aim to make you genuinely know about the human body, work with it safely, and manage many conditions using yoga as a therapy. If you genuinely want to help yourself or someone else with a health problem, these courses are ideal for you.
What will I learn?
Each course covers different topics of the human body. The aim is to provide information a yoga practitioner will find most relevant to their personal practice or teaching. There is a strong focus on safety and overcoming injury and disease, with a constant reference to yoga and how to apply it most effectively.
Do I need any prior training in anatomy or yoga?
Each course is designed as a stand alone course, that is you don’t need to have had any previous training in anatomy or undertaken any of our other courses.
Do these courses count for CEE of CPD credits?
When you have completed the course, we will issue a certificate of completion. Many yoga bodies, for example, Yoga Alliance, will accept this as part of your CEE or CPD requirements. We don’t currently have affiliations with any yoga organisations, though we will very soon.
I have studied a lot of anatomy, how will these courses add to my existing knowledge?
We aim to improve your thought process and make you a smarter and safer yoga practitioner, not a more learned anatomist! So while you may learn things you have covered before, the way we show you to apply this will be different.
I am an ashtanga yoga teacher, are these courses for me?
If you want to learn about the body and help other people with theirs, then yes.

What Students Say
I wasn’t looking for an ordinary anatomy course with names of muscles and bones to memorize, but for something more accessible and compatible with my yogic background. The course exceeded my expectations. Not only does he have a thorough understanding of movement and anatomy but, being a practitioner himself, he can apply his experience and knowledge of yoga as well. It helped me understand movement, how injuries occur, and how to approach them. I can’t wait for his upcoming courses

I have practiced with Tara for a while now starting with Ashtanga 10 years ago. I have found Pranayama to be astonishingly effective at calming my nervous system and overactive brain, while at the same time giving me the ability to focus, in a highly concentrated way on my work. I always thought until then that cooling, relaxing breath would have the opposite effect, making me not want to work! But in fact, by activating the vagus nerve, it gives me a level of chill that is super powerful, particularly when I write and have client meetings. As a marketer for decades and now my own firm, I have found it to be a surprisingly powerful tool and highly recommend it to others.

Tara’s expertise in Ayurveda and yoga therapy has significantly changed my body and my life. I began yoga therapy and an Ayurvedic consultation with her in December, hoping to adapt my practice and food habits to address endometriosis pain, frequent colds, bronchitis, and anxiety. With simple yet effective techniques, I stayed illness-free all winter. My energy remained high and stable, even while caring for sick people. A consistent sleep schedule, kashayam, homemade food, and a personalized yoga and pranayama practice helped stabilize my energy and mind, honoring my body’s uniqueness. I’m truly grateful for Tara’s mentorship. As a woman and yoga teacher, I highly recommend exploring Ayurveda with her—it’s essential for true well-being.
